At least 53 people have been killed in the bombings attributed to Russian troops in the northern Ukrainian city of Chenihiv in the past 24 hours, Viacheslav Chaus, head of the state administration of that region, reported in a Facebook message collected by the Ukrinform agency.

The enemy is exposing the city to systemic artillery and air strikes, destroying the civilian infrastructure of Chenihiv,” said the regional official

In the last 24 hours, 53 bodies of victims killed by the Russians have been taken to the morgue,” said Chaus.

Despite the continuous bombing, teams of electricians and other utility workers are constantly working in the city, he added.

They are trying to restore the electricity, gas and water supply that has been severely damaged by the continuous shelling. Chaus advised all those who take refuge in places where there is no water or food to go to Ukrainian military centers for help.

The regional official also recalled the incident that occurred on Wednesday in the city when, he said, at least 13 people died when a group of citizens lining up in a supermarket to buy bread were attacked by Russians. In the evening, the authorities reported the discovery of five bodies, including three children, under the rubble of a bombing raid in the same city.

A few days ago, the mayor of the city posted on social networks a video of a library that was burned to ashes due to the indiscriminate bombings.

Reports of shelling of Ukrainian civilian targets multiply as the invasion enters its third week and Russian troops attempt to complete the encirclement of Kiev, the Ukrainian capital. There, the inhabitants must respect a curfew until Thursday morning. According to the municipal authorities, Kiev is experiencing a “dangerous moment”.
