In the last 24 hours, at least 53 people were killed in a bombing caused by Russian troops in the northern Ukrainian city of Chenihiu, Viacheslav Chaus, the head of the state administration of the region, reported in a Facebook message collected by the Ukrinform agency.

The Red Army is destroying Chenihiv's civilian infrastructure by exposing the city to systematic artillery and air strikes,” said a local official.

In the past 24 hours, the bodies of 53 victims killed by Russians have been transported to the morgue,” Chaus said.

Despite the ongoing bombing, a team of electricians and other utility workers is constantly working in the city, he added.

They are trying to restore electricity, gas and water supplies that were severely damaged by constant shelling. Chaus advised all those who take refuge in places where there is no water or food, to seek help from the Ukrainian military center.

Local officials also recalled the events that occurred in the city on Wednesday. He lined up at a supermarket to buy bread and said that at least 13 people were killed when a group of citizens were attacked by Russians. In the evening, authorities reported that five bodies, including three children, were found under the remnants of a bombing raid in the same city.

A few days ago, the mayor of the city posted on social networks a video of a library that was burned to ashes due to an indiscriminate bombing.

As the invasion enters the third week and Russian troops attempt to complete the siege of the Ukrainian capital Kiev, reports on the bombardment of civilian targets in Ukraine increase. There, residents must respect the curfew until Thursday morning. According to city authorities, Kiev is experiencing a “dangerous moment”.
