The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, during a visit to the courtyard workshop of the first line of the metro in the town of Bosa, gave an overview of how the works are progressing, and in a clear warning to Gustavo Petro, reiterated that the work is unstoppable and will continue.
According to the president, the works progress by 16% and the preparation of the floor of the workshop yard by 25%. By 2027, the workshop yard and viaduct will be fully built, and in 2028 the first line of the Bogotá metro would come into operation.
Precisely, in order to advance faster in the adaptation of the soil, a concrete plant was installed in the workshop yard.
In addition, López added that, “we are going to fulfill and honor the contract we signed. In July of this year we will receive from President Duque the cheque, the real commitments, the agreement between the nation and the mayor's office to finance the second line that goes to Suba and Engativa. With this check in hand we can open the hiring process next year.”
The president explained that studies are progressing on the structuring of the project for the second line of the metro. The route has already been defined with 16 kilometers from Calle 72 to Fontanar del Río, in Suba.
The mayor said that this year it will be announced what the Metro cars will be like.
Claudia said that henceforth each government in Bogotá must make its own in order to comply with the provisions of the Territorial Planning Plan, which foresees that in the next 20 years Bogotá must have a total of five metro lines, two regional trains, one of which is the Regiotram of the West, which is already under construction, and seven overhead cables .
It should be recalled that Petro assured that, if elected president of Bogotá, he would rethink the entire process of line 1 of the metro, thereby attempting to reactivate its project for an underground route suspending works such as the purchase and demolition of buildings that are already in progress on the route of the elevated line.
