The children of Nora Dalmasso (51), who was murdered in her home in Rio Cuarto 15 years ago, will testify today as witnesses at a new hearing in the jury trial against her father Marcelo Macarrón, accused of being the mastermind of the crime.
Valentina (30) and Facundo Macarrón (33), who live abroad and returned to the province of Córdoba in recent days to accompany their father in the proceedings, also anticipated that in this procedural instance they will provide evidence involving “a businessman who was a friend of the family” as the alleged perpetrator of the murder.
The technical court of the Criminal and Correctional Chamber of First Nomination of Rio Cuarto awaits the testimony of four witnesses today. Marcelo Macarrón -the only accused in the case of homicide qualified by the link, by alevosia and by price or remuneratory promise in ideal competition- had its turn yesterday before the eight popular juries and before the technical judges of the Court of Rio Cuarto, Daniel Antonio Vaudagna; Natacha Irina Garcia and Gustavo Jose Echenique Esteve.
Valentina, who insists like her brother on her father's innocence, explained in statements to the Telam agency that her family had already “provided a lot of evidence about the suspect of the crime” during the investigation process and that this line “was never investigated”, so this Wednesday they will “present new elements” in this regard.
The young woman also stated that throughout the investigation process “many lies were told in the cause” and that “perhaps the crime that occurred on November 26, 2006 in the country Villa Golf has also been politicized”.
Valentina also referred to the hypothesis about alleged marital disagreements between her parents, as the accusation poses as one of the motives of the crime. The young woman said: “My dad and mom loved each other. I could never kill her. My father is totally innocent.”
For his part, his brother Facundo, like his father, described the task as “mamarracho” the investigating prosecutor Luis Pizarro, who brought the case to trial against his father and accused him of hiring a hit man to commit his wife's crime while he was playing a golf tournament in the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este.
“From a logical and legal point of view, you can never reach a conviction” because “the prosecution has no evidentiary basis. He has no support for objective facts that justify my father's sitting on the bench of the accused today,” Facundo said.
In this regard, he added that “never in the judicial history of Argentina was an intellectual author convicted without knowing the material authors”.
“There was no marriage crisis or intentions for divorce,” he insisted. “We always saw them together. They were an example of love,” said the young diplomat when he led, together with his sister Valentina, a demonstration in support of his father in front of the courts where the trial is being held.
Before the court and the popular jury that will handle the verdict, Marcelo Macarrón assured in his statement yesterday that he lived “destroyed, with a depressive crisis”, since his wife was killed and that he “several times” thought about committing suicide. After giving a statement for about 20 minutes, he said he felt bad and interrupted his speech.
“I can't go on. There are many years of this ordeal,” he said towards the end. Earlier, he proclaimed his innocence. “I totally deny the prosecutor's accusation against me because he is a total liar. I am innocent,” he said: “It is unreasonable to think that I am a murderer and that I hired a murderer.”
