Being locked in an elevator is the nightmare that many hope will never come true. The fear of being locked up is a small space, with no service to be able to communicate with someone and ask for help, not knowing how long you will be there and if something worse could happen it was something that became a reality for a man in New York.
Matt is the name of the man who decided to share his distressing experience through his TikTok account (@mnv_ _13) in January of this year. It turns out that in September of last year, he and his girlfriend boarded the elevator of their building in New York on their way back from a party.
As he made the way up, from one moment to the next, the elevator stopped for him frightened both of them. It was at that moment that Matt tried to use his cell phone to call for help by calling 911, however, as he did not have a signal, he did not have a favorable result. So he tried to put his mobile phone into “emergency calls only” mode to see if any changes occurred, but to no avail.
However, to the “luck” of both of them, the elevator had a way that allowed them to communicate with a central office of hired operators who help them solve unforeseen events, such as getting stuck halfway in the elevator.
By pressing the help button, Matt was able to immediately communicate with an operator. In the video you hear how he asks her “Can you call 911?” , but no response from the operator is heard. So @mnv_ _13 asks again “Hello? ” to which if you have an answer and you can hear a “Yes, sir?” . With hope the trapped passenger asks “Can you call 911 from your phone?” . But to his surprise the woman says no.
“What do you mean not? Don't you have a phone there? ” is heard asking the young man indignantly. The video is cut at that time leaving everyone with the question of what happened. So far, the clip has gathered more than 3 million views and more than half a million likes.
“I got stuck in my elevator and the operator was going to leave me abandoned” is read throughout the video. He and his partner decided to tell how the distressing situation ended in a new clip that he also uploaded to their account. In this account, they managed to get out thanks to the help of a neighbor who heard their cries for help, he was the one who finally called the firefighters, who were able to rescue them without problems.
HOW EMERGENCY BUTTONS WORK
According to one of the companies that provides this service by pressing the button on the elevator phone, it connects with a call to a dispatch center of the company that has operators working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once you answer, he or she will assess the situation and what each passenger needs and act accordingly by following a list of calling numbers designated by the customer or by contacting an emergency system such as 911 or fire department as needed.
