These are the advances of the second line of the Bogotá Metro and troncal Calle 13

In order to speed up the construction of the Bogotá Metro, the capital and national authorities met on March 15 to review the progress of the project. District officials presented the feasibility progress and the requirements required to ensure that the Second Line of the Bogotá Metro and the Calle 13 trunk could be co-financed.

At the end of the meeting, no details of the meeting were provided. The national authorities recalled that the co-financing of both projects is subject to compliance with the requirements set out in article 100 of the National Development Plan and the regulations indicated by the Ministry of Transport.

Both the Metro second line project and the trunk line must be supported by technical, environmental, legal and financial feasibility studies. Likewise, it was indicated that the co-financing of these projects is also a function of the availability of the resources of the Nation and the territory.

Despite this latest warning, hours before the end of the meeting, President Iván Duque assured that he will sign funding for the second metro line for the city before the end of his term in August of this year.

It should be recalled that the national government is already co-financing, with resources exceeding 20 billion pesos, different transport projects in Bogotá, such as the First Line of the Metro and its feeding trunks. In addition, from the regional perspective, the extension of Transmilenio to Soacha in its phases II and III, and Regiotram of the West.

The National Planning Department (DNP) indicated that these projects, and especially the Second Line of the Bogotá Metro and the Calle 13 trunk, will greatly benefit citizens. They point out that beyond expanding the transport system, it will generate benefits in their quality of life and the productivity of the region.

The DNP assures that the Second Line of the Bogotá Metro will benefit 2.5 million inhabitants in the towns of Chapinero, Barrios Unidos, Engativa and Suba. It is a project prioritized by Bogotá with advances in feasibility studies, whose selected route begins at Caracas Avenue with Calle 72, where it connects to the First Line of the Metro. From there it departs west along 72nd Street to Avenida Ciudad de Cali, and takes northwest to the corridor of the future ALO, reaching AC 145 (future Transversal Avenue of Suba) and ending in the workshop yard.

As for the Calle 13 trunk, it includes an 11.4-kilometer corridor, which includes 13 TransMilenio stations, a workshop yard and six intersections, becoming a fundamental project because it will help to decongest this corridor and improve the regional connection. In addition, it will benefit more than 1.7 million inhabitants and it is estimated that by 2030 this trunk will serve between 150,000 and 200,000 passengers on a typical business day.

Taking these variables into account, the national Government ensures that it is interested in implementing the projects. They ensure that they will continue to monitor the progress of feasibility and will technically accompany its development.
