The main person in charge of reducing seats in Congress is me: Álvaro Uribe

The former President of Colombia referred to a coalition that was responsible for the performance of the Democratic Center in legislative elections and was able to confront Gustavo Petro.

On Tuesday, March 15, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, the former President of Colombia, was responsible for the outcome of the Democratic Center in a legislative election in which the ruling party lost 41 seats in the majority in the Congress of the Republic and 5 seats in the Senate with 5 seats in the House of Representatives.

This was stated by the former president at a meeting in which the members of the collective were convened last Sunday, March 13, after the election results were known, and the only candidate for the political union that would face the first, except for the Parliament of the Republic, of the presidential round.

“We have reduced seats a lot. The main reason for this decline is me because of the impact on my reputation. We should try to build them, not to be stoppers that hinder these constructions. The former president said at his first meeting with the bench after the election results were known. Because there is a great danger to the motherland beyond the party where we have lost a lot of positions, so at that moment we have a very nice head.

He also started by pointing out in his speech that “it is not a holiday because we are not in a boom”, pointing out that elected candidates should start a political transition and consult with the party militants to “reconsider” the next step that should be taken, “the most important way of programming”.

In this regard, he noted the possibility that the coalition would confront opposition leaders in the polls, noting that the committee should be composed of the largest voters such as Miguel Uribe, Maria Fernanda Caval, and Paloma Valencia, who will be responsible for the “transition” to vote intent polls, Gustavo Petro.

“The candidate I am approaching right away says uribista and stigmatizes it. I was also sorry that Oscar Ivan went out for a walk with me. That is why I want to take on the task now by applying the principle of 'there are many people who do not interfere, 'but the party cannot be an obstacle or a blockage factor. The party should help with attitudes and attitudes with thinking and determination so that Colombia can lead to a large coalition that can effectively confront Petro,” said the former president.

These statements from the former president come a day after the ruling party candidate Oscar Iván Zuluaga resigns his aspirations for the presidency of Colombia and announced his support for Federico Gutierrez, the candidate for the Colombian team's right-wing alliance, after the consultation of Gustavo Petro.

On the other hand, the former president assured that the party should restore the Special Chamber, referring to the reform of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), a problem previously solved by some members of the community, such as Senator Paloma Valencia and María Fernanda Cabal, to judge the military fairly.”
