DreamWorks released the official trailer for The Cat in Boots: The Last Wish, the return of the charismatic character who has the voice of none other than Antonio Banderas. He was one of the key characters for Shrek to continue having films after his appearance in the second part of the franchise. More than a decade after its predecessor, the cat returns, but this time with a dramatic reality: it lost eight of its nine lives and will now have to return the count to zero.
When she realizes that she has only one life left, her friend Kitty, played by Salma Hayek, will join the adventure so that Gato regain the lives he lost. Along the way, they will have to face the crime family of the Three Bears and Goldilocks, and also the fierce wolf. Adventures that he will take with great caution since, as we rightly pointed out, he is only one life away from the definitive death.
In the trailer it comes after more than 10 years of waiting. With clear improvements in animation, since his first appearance is close to turning 20, now Gato will have to take care of his life as much as he can and avoid all those oversights that were previously characteristic of his personality and charm.
“Recovering those lives will lead the Cat in Boots to his most incredible quest yet,” says one of the synopses of the film that tells us that there is a way to get the bill back to zero, but for that he must embark on a journey with his team, composed of Kitty and a stray dog that joins the way to the Black Forest. There he must find the mythical Star of Wishes and restore his lost lives.
Harvey Guillén is the actor who joins the cast of The Cat in Boots as the Stray Dog. The rest of the voice cast includes one of today's most sought after, Florence Pugh as Goldilocks, Olivia Colman, Wagner Moura, Ray Winstone, John Mulaney, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Anthony Mendez and Samson Kayo.
On the creative side, Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado are director and co-director respectively, while Mark Swift is the producer of the film. The three form a team known for The Croods: A New Age. Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination, is the executive producer.
The character of the Cat in Boots first appeared in Shrek 2 (2004) and became a key piece of the franchise. He appeared in the rest of the films until he got his own film directed by Chris Miller and with Guillermo del Toro as executive producer. In addition, it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Film.
The Cat in Boots: The Last Wish hits theaters on September 23.
