On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 15, President Ivan Duke revealed that he held talks with General Secretary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg, where he rejected Russia's invasion attack on Ukraine.

In the call, the President made all his humanitarian support available to the Secretary. Thousands of Ukrainians come to flee the invasion in countries like Poland, Romania and Slovakia as well as sharing experience in migration care.

Before the media, the President said, “We are supporting him on two issues: one very important is humanitarian development, which means providing resources for humanitarian aid. And two, as we already did with the presidents of Romania, Poland and Slovakia, we are also following migration management issues,” the president said.

It is estimated that around 1.7 million people in Venezuela are located in Colombia, this is equivalent to about 32 percent of all Venezuelan immigrants from Latin America. Based on this experience, the President explained that his government could “advise on issues such as border care”.

UN data indicates that to date more than three million people have left Ukraine because Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a military attack on February 24, the UN, considers this exodus the fastest since World War II. President Ivan Duque said, “We already have experience in border care, nutrition, in meeting needs, but also in inclusion, so we are transmitting this knowledge through NATO, which is a place of good practice. ”

Since US President Joe Biden announced on March 11 that Colombia would be designated as a strategic country that is not affiliated with NATO, the national government has emphasized that this news is a great support for bilateral relations between the two countries. To which the Duke insisted that he would be “in constant coordination with them so that Colombia can offer these services at this time. ”

For his part, the NATO Secretary General highlighted on his Twitter account that he had “had good discussions with President Ivan Duke, a NATO partner. Like-minded nations unite to condemn Russia's brutal aggression against Ukraine. ”

Finally, President Duke reaffirmed that “we have a very good relationship with Secretary Stoltenberg, Colombia is the only country in Latin America that is a partner of this organization at the request of the United States”.

Colombia, with the position of major ally of the United States, weighs many aspects from the point of view of defense and security, since in this case it will be able to access various benefits of the development of American defense, such as priority access to security tools, and ultimately the use of credit Purchase or rental of security and defence equipment from a North American nation.

Defense Minister Diego Molano pointed out that one of the advantages of this announcement is that Colombia will have greater access to the surplus military capabilities that the United States has, as well as the debt of military equipment for the development of operations. “This means deepening research and technical activities in the capabilities of our public forces, and deepening Colombia's regional capacity to support other countries in the region to combat drug trafficking and terrorism,” he said.
