After beating 3-1 at home in the first leg last week, New York City visited the Court of the Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium this Tuesday and lost 4-2 to Comunicaciones.
Argentina's Valentin Castellanos scored 1-0 for the US team during this second leg 32 minutes.
Already in the second half of the year, Andres Lezcano went 1-1 for the Guatemalan team at the age of 45.
New York City regained its lead at the age of 53 with 2-1 scored by Brazilian Thales Magno.
Comunicaciones responded with three goals scored by Nicolás Samayoa at 69, Linner Garcia 72, and José Contreras at 89, but his favor was short of 4-2 goals.
“We have learned a good lesson to learn how to defend things and act in these types of games when they have to suffer and overcome them,” said Norwegian Ronny Deila, chief coach of New York City.
This Wednesday, the quarterfinals continue. Cruz Azul of Mexico will visit Montreal from Canada with a 1-0 advantage, and Mexican Puma will try to rise as a local from a 3-0 disadvantage for the American New England Revolution.
On Thursday, the Seattle Sounders of the United States will visit the Mexican Lion with a 3-0 advantage.
