He would have raped at least 12 women: they capture alleged sexual predator in Medellin

Authorities announced the capture of a subject reported to be responsible for sexual crimes against twelve women in Medellin.

Andrés Felipe Zapata Castrillón, 33, is charged with crimes of violent carnal access, violent sexual acts and qualified theft. The Attorney General's Office announced that it obtained an insurance measure in a prison center against this alleged sexual predator in the capital of Antioquia.

The prosecutor assured that after investigations carried out by a prosecutor from the Center for Comprehensive Care for Victims of Sexual Abuse (Caivas), it was established that Andrés Felipe Zapata had committed the attacks between December 2020 and the same month in 2021.

Likewise, the investigations revealed that among the victims of the subject there are minors, since the Prosecutor's Office managed to establish that the women who were affected are between 17 and 34 years old.

According to the investigating body, the main places where the accused committed the sexual crimes are the center of Medellín, the Botanical Garden and the vicinity of the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.

According to what was established by the accusator, Andrés Felipe Zapata intercepted his victims in the places mentioned and identified himself as a member of the criminal group known as 'Convivir del Centro'.

In addition, he used a sharp weapon to intimidate women and drive them to hotels or places where there were no more people. Once in those places, the man carnally accessed them and later stole their belongings.

The capture took place while trying to attack a 15-year-old girl

According to the information of the Prosecutor's Office, the person accused of abusing at least twelve women in Medellín, was arrested when he allegedly intended to commit sexual crimes against a minor under the age of 15.

According to information from the investigating body, members of the National Police located Andrés Felipe Zapata because of the cries for help from the girl who asked for help not to be attacked by the alleged sexual predator

“The victim's cries for help made it possible to capture the alleged perpetrator,” said the Attorney General's Office.

Likewise, the prosecutor assured that “within the framework of the investigation, the defendant had been identified by twelve victims as their aggressor”. He also reported that none of the charges against Andrés Felipe Zapata Castrillón were accepted.

New charges are charged by gang members implicated in sexual crimes against minors in Medellin

César Augusto Cano Graciano, alias Paraco; and Edwin Jarlinson Higuita Ortiz, alias Soldo, were charged with the crimes of aggravated forced displacement, the use of minors for the commission of crimes and violent carnal access.

According to investigations by the Prosecutor's Office, 'Paraco' allegedly abused a girl under the age of 14 in July 2020. For his part, alias Soldo would be involved in the sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 17 who had been threatened with a firearm while committing the crime.

Investigations to establish responsibility for the above-mentioned crimes continue, while men will have to pay 14 years in prison for crimes as a concert to commit crimes, as ringleaders.
