Residents of affected areas are being treated in medical centers after multiple injuries due to collapse. According to information provided by the defense portfolio, another 8 people are unharmed. It is estimated that the number of buried dwellings is about 15.

“We are stepping up our rescue efforts, and 8 people have already been rescued unharmed and we have one injured person who will be treated at a medical center and evacuated tomorrow,” said Gavidia, the Minister of the La Libertad region.

Gavidia said a rescue brigade of 40 people was deployed, including firefighters, miners and police officers. During the night, the team dedicated itself to finding missing citizens on land that covered several houses. To save the rest of the population, 90% of people living in areas near the hill were evacuated. This is due to the risk of slippage occurring elsewhere.

The Minister of Defense confirmed that houses were built in the valley and that they represented a “time bomb”. He explained that a large part of the residents were immigrants due to large-scale mining activities.

President Castillo confirmed his presence in the disaster area through his Twitter account. “After giving a message to the Peruvian people in Congress, we will go to the province of Pataz to check on the spot the area affected by the accident that occurred this morning. #GobiernoDelPueblo will be present when citizens need it most.” He wrote.

Drama Rescue

The authorities not only dealt with the rescue work, but also joined the citizens. A video spread on social media shows people using ropes to break walls and liberate those left behind the product of this landslide. In another video shared on social networks, you can see how a group aboard several transport units was saved so as not to be dragged and killed by the district.

Despite the passage of time, the magnitude of this disaster is still clearly known: no deaths have been reported, but under the rubble there are several people who are tirelessly searched by rescuers.

Among the groups that came to the disaster area is the health brigade of Peruvian hospitals, consisting of 20 people, including doctors, nurses, medical technicians and nursing technicians, who will provide free medical care to insured and uninsured populations affected by landslides.

The Chilean government has published a publication that regrets what happened in the northern part of our country. “At the Chilean Foreign Ministry, we deeply regret the tragedy caused by a landslide that buried dozens of houses in the province of La Libertad Pataz. Our solidarity is solidarity with the Peruvian people.” He says in a Twitter message.
