WARSAW, Poland (AP) — The prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia returned safely to Poland on Wednesday after a visit to Kiev to show their support for Ukraine in the midst of Russia's military offensive.
Leaders met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday to send the message that the country is not alone and that they support Kiev's aspirations to enter the European Union one day.
The train journey, which lasted several hours, continued despite the EU's concerns about the security risks posed by traveling through a war zone.
Polish government spokesman Piotr Mueller said Wednesday morning that the presidents had returned safely to the country.
The authorities did not provide details about his itinerary for security reasons.
The group that traveled to Kiev consisted of Prime Ministers Mateusz Morawiecki, from Poland; Petr Fiala, from Czech Republic, and Janez Jansa, from Slovenia. The entourage included Jaroslaw Kaczynski, deputy prime minister and leader of the ruling party in Poland, who, by virtue of his unusual pact, is the most powerful politician in the country.
