COVID-19: Peru has recorded 3,308 new infections and 21 deaths in the past 24 hours

The COVID-19 pandemic still exists in our country. Especially now we have a third wave of contagion due to the presence of omicron variants. According to the situation office of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), 3,308 new infections have been registered in the last 24 hours and 21 compatriots have been losttheir lives due to coronavirus. During this time, 41,338 people were tested nationwide.

Due to the virus that caused this epidemic, the number of hospitalized people has increased to 1,513. Of these, 658 were admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) where they were treated with mechanical ventilation. According to the Ministry of Health, more than 3 million people have been quarantined at home since the pandemic began.

Since March 2020, more than 25 million Peruvian people have been tested for coronavirus, of which 3,537,488 have been confirmed. 211,619 is the total number of compatriots who have died of COVID-19 since the virus was first registered in the national territory so far.

To prevent infection, the government maintains a recommendation to respect the physical distance of at least 1 meter between people. He urges the population to wash their hands continuously and, preferably, wear masks that are KN95.

A daily report published by Minsa revealed that “the Ministry of Health is analyzing the registration system to update the information.” This is because the numbers they share correspond only to those collected in the last 24 hours and did not really reflect the number of deaths on a particular day.

“The number of deaths mentioned in the Chamber of Situations falls only in the last 24 hours. If the absolute total number of deaths for that day is subtracted less than the previous day, the result will be higher than in the last 24 hours.This difference is a result of the fact that the numbers were updated the previous day.” Engineer Juan Carbajal spoke to this media.

In addition, he stressed that the figures are not surprising at the moment, but the day will come when we will be surprised by the high figures already recorded by Minsa's public data. “Public data is a platform where each organization in the Ministry of Health notifies and verifies death certificates to determine if death is due to Covid or other causes. Finally, the information is recorded in the National Computer Death System (Sinadef).” He added.

That is, if the Chamber of Situations suspends the registration of the deceased in the last 24 hours, Sinadef continues to receive information about the death, which is ordered to determine the total number of citizens who lost their lives on a specific date.

“Because Minsa processes this information, it is not intended to make reports in the spirit of hiding figures; what is lacking is greater dissemination so that people know the real situation that the country is going through. The numbers presented seem light, but when they say that 104 people died a day, the alarm goes off,” the expert stressed that if the Ministry of Health had a portal on which this data was recorded, it would be left more accessible to the population.
