It didn't take many hours of President Pedro Castillo's speech so that from the Congress heard the first request for the resignation of one of the members of the cabinet. This time it's about premier Aníbal Torres, whom the congressman of Popular Renewal, Alejandro Muñante, criticized for revealing the changes made at the last minute in the message to Parliament delivered on Tuesday afternoon,
“What President Castillo promised today about building bridges with the opposition must be translated into action. I think the prime minister is firecking the president's willingness to agree with the opposition,” the congressman said in conversation with Canal N.
During his message, the president of the republic stressed the importance of unity between the Executive and the Legislative Branch in ending the discrepancies between the two branches. For the legislator, it did not seem right that Prime Minister Aníbal Torres had revealed his desire to present a bill on the advancement of elections as a way out of the crisis. He indicated that his statement is to throw “wood into the fire”.
“Being practical, the one who should come out is Mr. Aníbal Torres from the premierate, if President Castillo wants to achieve that bridge, that agreement”, stressed the parliamentarian. “We have said from the beginning, the fact that Torres is placed as premier means that the Cabinet he is going to put in is a Cabinet of Chota, a Cabinet of confrontation,” he added.
For Muñante, Pedro Castillo's presence in Congress “has been an encouragement to want to deflate the presidential vacancy. That's obvious.” However, he stressed that the decision on this measure should be heard on 28 March, as planned. “Consistent with what we have proposed, we are going to act in the same way as we have been until today. That does not mean that we can talk, agree on some points that we believe can benefit the entire population,” he stressed.
LAST MINUTE CHANGE
“There have been many announcements by the president, but there was a lack of an announcement that he decided not to make at the last minute,” were the words that caught the attention of the press as Prime Minister Aníbal Torres commented on President Castillo's message on the outskirts of Government Palace.
“He told me: 'Doctor, we are making one last attempt at concertation in Congress to correct this political instability that exists, it is necessary and we may be able to reach agreements to face the great problems that the country has. ' That is why he did not make the announcement of the advance of general elections. That's the truth,” he revealed.
The announcement drew attention because of the displeasure with which Torres' statements were marked. This, as has already been reported in previous lines, caused discomfort in some congressmen who have already advanced to ask for the departure of the cabinet premier. It should be recalled that just a week ago, Torres won the parliament's vote of confidence, although this was only possible with the minimum possible number, which was 65. 58 were the congressmen who voted against it, while 2 decided to abstain.
At the moment, the future of President Castillo in office is in the hands of the congressmen, who will meet on March 28 to vote on the vacancy motion filed against the president.
