Colombian music of mourning: Hetty is killed by a firearm in San Andrés

On the night of March 14, the death of Fabian Pérez, better known as Hety, was confirmed last Sunday, March 13, after spending several hours under observation at the San Andres Department Hospital after becoming a victim of a gun attack while at home on the island.

As a result of the attack, Hety suffered damage to the vessel due to one of the bullets, so it was necessary to move inside the country, but due to complications of the clinical condition, the remission was stopped.

The death of the musician was confirmed on the official Instagram accounts of Hety and Zambo. We are devastated by the loss of our brother HETY. Rest in the glory of Almighty God. Thank you for your love. The King of Creole is forever.”

The Ministry of Culture rejected the murder of Hetty through a message posted on Twitter.

Today, Colombian music is in mourning. We condemn the violent acts that took the life of Fabian Perez Hooker “Hetty Perez”. Musicians from the Hety & Zambo group, who stood out for promoting Lizal music from a young age. We express our condolences.

Together with Zambo, Hety formed one of the most important groups in the alternative dance hall. The dance hall has always stood out for its strong African-flavored sound that makes “music break borders and reach the hearts of followers.”

When she debuted in the music scene in 2006 with a mixtape called 'Wi Rule Di Eria', songs such as 'Seke seke' and 'Mi bunki' began, perhaps the most important lines. Sounds of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina Islands.

Their sounds left the island and reached the Caribbean coast, invading the Pacific coast and interior, and in 2009 they released their first studio album called 'Dreams can come tru' with a collaboration between the independent label Audio Lírica Entertainment and producer Benny Bazz.

In a second mixtape called 'Mod Up Style', they tested the sounds and rhythms of reggae, soca, juk, hip-hop, dancehall, and electro. For producer Benny Bazz, they were “more than sound or style, it was an expression of people, and the voice of a small island called San Andrés, where roots and African heritage were mixed.”
