Collapse in Pataz: Government of Chile expresses solidarity with Peru after avalanche

So far, between 10 and 12 people are reported missing, while eight were rescued.

The tragedy that occurred in the province of Pataz, in the La Libertad region, due to the landslide of land that buried dozens of homes, with several people inside, has shaken the world.

From Chile, its Ministry of Relations regretted the collapse and expressed its solidarity with the Peruvian people for these events, which have left 15 houses buried and more than 10 inhabitants disappeared.

“From the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs we deeply regret the tragedy that occurred due to the landslide that buried dozens of homes in the province of Pataz, La Libertad. Our solidarity is with the Peruvian people,” he says in his Twitter message.

The President of Peru, Pedro Castillo, is currently on his way to the town center of Retamas, in the Parcoy district, located in the Liberteña province of Pataz, in order to verify the area affected by a landslide that occurred in this part of the country.

“After having fulfilled the message to the Peruvian people from Congress, I am going to the province of Pataz to verify in situ the area affected by the accident that occurred this morning. The #GobiernoDelPueblo will be present at the time when citizens most require it,” said the president through social networks.

For its part, the Office of the Ombudsman stated that they had already met with members of the Peruvian Army, Indeci, the National Police and the General Volunteer Fire Department to ensure their presence in the area of the emergency.

“In an emergency landslide meeting in Retamas, Parcoy district, Pataz province, the presence of rescuers from the Army, Indeci, Police and Firefighters is assured in the area,” he said.

They also called on public and private institutions to help victims in the area with their maximum efforts. “We demand that public and private institutions make every effort to attend to and rescue those affected. We will be monitoring actions taken and that humanitarian aid reaches the victims”, continued the Office of the Ombudsman.

ESSALUD BRIGADE WILL PROVIDE CARE TO AFFECTED

The new president of the Social Security of Health (EsSalud), Alegre Fonseca, today dismissed the health brigade of the Peru Hospital, which will attend to those affected by the emergency that occurred in Pataz.

He specified that the response team is made up of 20 people, including doctors, nurses, medical technologists and nursing technicians, who will provide free health care to the insured and uninsured population affected by the landslide.

“In coordination with Minsa, we are joining forces to provide adequate care to people affected by the emergency in Retamas. This is a health brigade from the Peru Hospital that will stay for a week and that is carrying the necessary medications,” the head of Social Security reported.

In the health brigade, the presence of specialists in traumatology and dermatology stands out to attend to possible injuries, fractures and skin problems caused by the collapse of part of the hill.

It should be noted that EsSalud Hospital Peru is a specialized emergency unit that travels to the most remote areas of our country to provide specialized, free and quality medical care to the insured and uninsured inhabitants.

“We are sending this medical brigade to Pataz to help our brothers who have been affected by the landslide. We have specialists who are prepared in the care of emergencies and natural disasters,” said the official.
