history

On August 4, 2021, the Mexican government filed a lawsuit in the Massachusetts District Court against the top 10 arms manufacturers, alleging negligent conduct and knowing that their products were illegally trafficked and supplied by criminal groups.

The lawsuit was filed against manufacturers such as Smith and Wesson, Century Arms, Colt Manufacturing, Glock, Luger, and Barrett, while 0.50 caliber sniper rifles were weapons of war used by drug cartels.

On 22 December, the United Nations Security Council approved the resolution on arms trafficking submitted by Mexico, which condemned the distribution of arms to non-State actors resulting in supply and reaffirmed the threat posed by small arms and light weapons to international peace and security.

In view of this, on January 14, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard was named “Person of the Year” in Gun Control 2021.
