On October 4, 2015, “El Bronco”, Jamie Rodríguez Calderón (Jaime Rodríguez Calderón), took office for the government of Nuevo León and said in his first speech that he would give justice to the alleged deviation among the administrations of his predecessor. PRI Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz attended a solemn meeting of the local council and although it was uncomfortable, he would not have imagined that Rodriguez Calderon's warning would be fulfilled later, at least for a few hours.

One of the commitments of the “El Bronco” campaign to reach the government through independent channels was to carry out a thorough audit of the management of Medina de la Cruz. Medina de la Cruz would have used this position to benefit and enrich several family members.

Rodrigo Medina was accused of fraud when signing a contract with the South Korean company Kia Motors to establish an automobile assembly plant in Nuevo León. The accusations against Medina de la Cruz were about charges of embezzlement of more than 3 billion pesos that harmed public funds.

In 2016, under the order of Rodriguez Calderon, the State Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Ernesto Canales claimed that there was an indictment against former governor Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz. For the crime of defrauding more than 36 billion pesos on suspicion of fraud in the case of hunger, the shipbuilding plant.

In this way, in the early morning of January 26, 2017, Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz was arrested and admitted to the Topochico prison, where he only stayed for about 19 hours. A federal judge ordered his release due to a violation of protection that suspended the order of detention against him.

Photos of the former governor in the prison lawsuit spread quickly and partly fulfilled the campaign promise because detention could not last more than a day for the administration of “El Bronco”. A few years later, Rodrigo Medina was exempted because none of the crimes for which he was accused could not be proven.
