The former governor of Nuevo León, Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, El Bronco, was arrested this Tuesday, March 15 by the State Attorney's Office due to alleged diversion of public resources during his presidential campaign in 2018.
The Bronco was apprehended in the municipality of General Terán, in Nuevo León. They immediately proceeded to transfer him to prison 2 in Apodaca to present his statements. According to local media, his arrest dates back to the complaint filed by the current governor of the entity, Samuel García, in 2018.
Four years ago, Garcia pointed out that Rodríguez Calderón had misused state resources to collect signatures and thus validate his candidacy as president independently.
That case was known as “Bronchosignas”. And it is that minutes after his arrest, Samuel García shared a video on his social networks where he assured that his government is incorruptible and asserted that “whoever made it, pays it”.

Likewise, on his Instagram account, the governor of Nuevo León wrote that after 4 years and 4 months, “we finally made it.” And he added the hashtag #BroncoFirmas.
In May 2018, the National Electoral Institute (INE) approved a fine of 739,000 pesos against Jaime Rodríguez. This is after an illegal financing scheme will be detected, in which El Bronco used about 12.8 million pesos to obtain the signatures necessary for the approval of its presidential candidacy as an independent.

According to the Technical Audit Unit, El Bronco would have resorted to three different schemes. The first was through 652 public servants from Nuevo León, who dedicated themselves to collecting signatures for their candidacy. The Electoral Counsellor, Ciro Murayama, explained that this use of human resources took place within the working hours of the servers, in order to raise support.
The second scheme consisted of simulating the receipt of “legitimate resources” by citizens in the bank account of the civil association Viva la Independencia, in amounts totaling 4,494,000 pesos. In addition, it was found that the 17 million 592 thousand pesos declared in its income and expenditure report came from 152 individuals, of whom 82 made deposits of more than 100,000 pesos.
In this way, money was triangulated to make it appear that citizens were making legitimate contributions and thus concealing that these financial resources actually came from various companies with which these citizens had no connection. Thus, the companies made the deposits to these contributors and then they deposited those amounts in favor of Rodríguez Calderón.
The third was made through the payment of 6 million 630 thousand pesos that El Bronco made to the auxiliaries who helped him collect the signatures. However, this action was not reported to the INE. Around one thousand 35 people registered as auxiliaries and received payments through cards that were funded by three companies: Grupo Comercial Gruten S.A. de C.V., Attar 2715 SC and Piserra Construcciones S.A. de C.V., Murayama explained.

In this event, resources amounting to 6 million 630 thousand pesos were used. In this way, the Government Comptroller's Office and Transparency of the State of Nuevo León, the Tax Administration Service (SAT), as well as the Prosecutor's Office Specialized in Electoral Crimes (FEPADE) were notified to take action in criminal proceedings.
At the time, Rodríguez Calderón assured that he would not pay the penalty on the grounds that the electoral body did not grant him the right to hear. Subsequently, in 2019, the Superior Audit of the State of Nuevo León (ASENL) filed a criminal complaint in this case, as it was detected that the program created by El Bronco, Aliados Contigo, carried out political-electoral activities during the year of his candidacy for the presidency of Mexico.
Finally, it should be recalled that this year the SAT froze the bank accounts of two employees of Jaime Rodríguez: Manuel Vital, former Secretary of Sustainable Development, and María de los Angeles Errisúriz, former Secretary of Education.
