Van rollover in Veracruz left three dead and 16 injured, some of Cuban nationality

A huge road accident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, March 15, on the La Tinaja-Cosoleacaque 145D highway, in the south of the state of Veracruz, which left three dead and 16 injured.

According to the first reports, it was the overturning of a van type van in which several people were traveling, some of them of foreign origin, at kilometer 089+500, towards Cosamaloapan, in the area called horseshoe of Carlos A. Carrillo.

According to local press reports, the driver of the gray Toyota Hiace van type unit with UBP-1584 plates was traveling in the direction of Cosamaloapan at excess speed and at one point lost control of the steering wheel.

Later it overturned and the van was in the middle of the central gutter that divides the lanes. Other motorists who passed through the area and witnessed what happened were those who called for emergencies.

As a result of the accident, three people were killed and 16 more were injured, including six minors — two of Cuban origin — who were taken to various hospitals in the area.

Paramedics of Federal Roads and Bridges (CAPUFE), Civil Protection from different municipalities such as Carlos A. Carrillo, Juan Rodríguez Clara and Cosamaloapan, as well as Firefighters from the latter, were the ones who traveled to that sector to provide first aid to the injured.

The injured were identified as Lisandra Martínez Montiaguelo, 23 years old; Magdiel Fernández Aguila, 21; Osvaldo Pérez Ramos, 55; Aile Diaz, 25; Alfredo Martin Ariad, 33; Antoni S.L., age 17; Lien Lopez Suarez, age 50, and Aranely Orduña Ramirez, 21 years old.

Also, Jaime Antonio Espinoza Martorell, 32 years old; Lien López Suárez, age 50; Magdiel Hernández, age 21; Arisnae Orduña Aguilera, age 32; Alfredo Martín Aguiar, age 33; Christer Fabian M. O., age 6 and Chistofer Leo M. O., age 9.

Ministerial police personnel and expert services came to carry out the withdrawal of the three bodies to the Semefo amphitheater, where they are expected to be formally identified in the coming hours.

Last year was a particularly painful year for Mexico: on the one hand, in numbers of the National Public Security System (INSP), in the first half of the year there were 7,463 deaths due to traffic accidents, that is, an increase that exceeded 1,300 deaths (21.5%) compared to the same period in 2020.
