They reminded Ingrid Betancourt when she supported Gustavo Petro in 2018

The elections for the Senate and House, in addition to the presidential consultations on Sunday, March 13, have left a new air ahead of the contest to reach Casa de Nariño on August 7.

Federico Gutiérrez, Sergio Fajardo and Gustavo Petro were the main protagonists, each winning in their respective consultations, although now they must face other candidates and seek to establish themselves as the best option for the next 4 years leading the country.

Among the candidates seeking a strong campaign is Ingrid Betancourt, who after being on the consultation list with Centro Esperanza where she was fighting with Sergio Fajardo, Alejandro Gaviria, Enrique Robledo, Juan Manuel Galán and former Boyacá governor Carlos Amaya, decided to resign due to differences within the alliance.

This immediately placed her as another political rival for the first round. Since her release in 2008, Betancourt has made her first participation as a presidential candidate, presenting as vice-presidential formula Colonel (r) José Luis Esparza, who was one of those responsible for her return to freedom.

Recently, Ingrid has been trending on social networks after a strong debate between her and Petro, although Federico Gutiérrez was also presiding over and talking about her proposals.

One of the discussions that took place was about Gustavo's closeness to former president César Gaviria in recent weeks, which Betancourt criticized in the debate.

In addition, controversy broke out over Ingrid's onslaught against Petro when she was reminded of an episode of depression in which she found him at home, which generated criticism of the candidate.

However, for many, the stark differences between the two candidates attract attention given that, in the 2018 elections, Betancourt approached Petro's political proposal for the second round, which came with today's President Iván Duque.

“Welcome Ingrid Betancourt to Human Colombia. We are united by hope and to defend peace. On June 17 we will win!” , were the words of Angela María Robledo, at that time Gustavo Petro's vice-presidential formula.

While Ingrid emphasized her commitment to peace by giving her support to Petro with these statements, “When one has suffered war, as many have suffered it in Colombia, there is no turning around here. We stand with those who want to build peace.”

Meanwhile, although the differences seem indissoluble, the road to the first elections is already opening, as candidates prepare to make political alliances that will add them and allow them to win in the first round, as Petro announced, or that leads them to a second decision-making stay at the polls to meet the new president of the republic in august.
