Tension, tragedy and fear reign in Ukraine. Images of the Russian bombings flooded social media, sowing sadness and pain in the world. Hospitals, containment centers and entire military bases were reduced to rubble, as well as a football stadium located in the north of the country.
“Once again, the invaders from Moscow fired on the most dangerous military infrastructure in the city - the stadium of our club,” the team of the first division of Ukrainian football, FC Desna, reported with some irony through a post on its official Instagram account on its official Instagram account.
“The photos show the consequences of the night bombing,” they added in the description of painful postcards that reflected the total destruction of their compound, which hosted the last match on December 5 in a match that ended 3-3 against the Mariupol Premier League of Ukraine.
The front doors, the bleachers, the changing rooms. Everything was reduced to rubble and ashes after the Russian attack in early March. The playing field, far from having the characteristic green color, took on a brownish hue resulting from the impact of the missiles, you could even see a large pit caused by one of them.
The club, which also uses the Ukrainian women's team as its main venue, today presents a bleak landscape. “How many more destructions as a result of the bombings have to occur to close the sky?” , asked themselves from the entity in another post on the social network.
“The icy Russian troops have no blood, they bomb stadiums, hospitals, houses. Close the sky, we'll do everything else by ourselves!” , they added. “We will rebuild all this, and we will only become stronger. Together to victory! The Ukrainian people are a united front, this is our Earth!” , ended.
“This is how the stadium was in Chernihiv. Stand firm, friends”, was the message of support sent by Shakthar Donetsk to the entity with which it shares the championship, through its official Twitter account. Until the suspension of the tournament, Desna was in seventh place with 25 points, 22 behind leader Shakthar.
The institution is located in the city of Chernihiv, a municipality that has almost 300 thousand inhabitants and is only 80 kilometers from the border with Belarus. At the same time, the stadium has a capacity for 14,000 spectators and was ready to host the women's national team on April 23, 2023, the date on which the match against Hungary for the World Cup qualifiers would take place.
