“The National Guard is an absolute failure”: PAN in the Senate wants the heads of GN and SSPC to appear

Damián Zepeda, senator for the National Action Party (PAN), said that the Albiazul bench in the Upper House will reject the report of the National Guard (NG) because that institution is a failure in the fight against crime and generates peace in Mexico.

This Tuesday, March 15, the representative of Hermosillo, Sonora, recalled at a press conference that the report of the GN is about to be voted on in the Senate, to which he assured that “there will be an absolute rejection by the senators of the National Action Party” due to the “absolute failure” of the public security strategy orchestrated by the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).

In this regard, he recalled that currently, in Mexico, there is more violence than ever, “never, as at this time, had there been so many homicides by organized crime and so much violence in the country,” he told the media.

In this regard, he expressed an evaluation comparing the government of the so-called 4T with those of Felipe Calderón Hinojosa (PAN) and Enrique Peña Nieto (PRI), noting that there are now three times more homicides than with the PAN player and twice as many as with the PRI.

“How can it be?” , the senator rebuked about the vote on the NG report, because according to the perspective of the albiazul, previous security policies had been an “absolute disaster” and, now that the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) rules, they are emulated.

In this regard, he stressed that of the 113,000 elements that make up the National Guard, about 90,000 come from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), so the civilian presence to which López Obrador announced the formation of this new Mexican security force.

“What good is it? if they are not going to defend Mexicans when there are cases of extreme violence, terror, such as the shooting of 17 people in Michoacán,” he said. He also recalled what happened in Zacatecas with university students, the violent incidents in Veracruz and the besieged cities in Sonora.

It was against this background that he justified why the PAN would reject that report. He also said that they will demand results from the relevant authorities and, in this line of thought, they will request that General bLuis Rodríguez Bucio, commander of the NG, and bRosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), appear before the Senate of the Republic.

Finally, it should be noted that Zepeda Vidales' criticism went out of the daily life of the PAN, as they condemned militarism in Mexico when, usually, what is criticized in AMLO's security strategy is the policy of “hugs, not bullets”, which is referred to as a passive state in the presence of organized crime in the republic.
