Televisa broadcasts controversial series about Mexican star Vicente Fernández

The Televisa network released on Monday on the national network a bioseries about the late singer Vicente Fernández, despite the fact that the artist's family assured that the broadcast was suspended by a judge.

On Sunday, Televisa said in a statement that it did not receive “court notice prohibiting the airing of the series 'The Last King. The Son of the People'” on his highest-rated channel.

The network said that it had been working for months on the bioseries about the singer based on the play “The Last King” written by journalist Olga Wornat.

The Fernández family said in a statement on Saturday that a federal judge ordered to stop the premiere of the bioseries about the singer, who died last December.

Family members accused Televisa of alleged violations, such as trademark rights and improper use of stage name.

This litigation is part of TelevisaUnivisión's competition with the Netflix platform, which has been authorized by the Fernández to make a bioseries about the singer.

Vicente Fernández, star of Latin American music, died last December 12 at the age of 81 Guadalajara (west), after being hospitalized for almost five months due to a fall.

In more than five decades of career, songs such as “Por tu cursed amor” and “Volver, volver” in Fernández's voice have accompanied several generations of Latin Americans.
