Suspended the auction of three archaeological pieces from Mexico in Belgium

After Mexican authorities failed to sell archaeological items abroad, Casa Carlo Bonte Auction removed these objects from the European auction

The Ministry of Culture and Foreign Affairs reported that Casa Carlo Bonte Auction announced that it will withdraw from the auction Vente aux enchères de beaux arts et d'antiquités three Mexican archaeological pieces that were classified as property of the country, in accordance with the Federal Law on Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Monuments and Areas.

The information was released on March 15, 2022 through a statement detailing that these relics were going to be sold at the event. Given these events, the Embassy of Mexico in Belgium contacted the auction house and expressed the disagreement of the Mexican Government regarding the “commercialization of pieces archaeological abroad, as well as their negative implications for cultural conservation and diffusion”.
