Xbox director Phil Spencer announced that the third release of State of Decay is looking incredible and is one of the titles he most awaits as a player.
“This shouldn't come as a surprise to those who saw me play, but I'm a great State of Decay 2 player. Now, watching State of Decay 3, I am incredibly excited about the advances they plan,” he said in an interview with the Xbox Era podcast.
The survival game originated in 2013, when it was released as an exclusive for Xbox 360 and PC. The titles of this experience were developed by Undead Labs and distributed by Microsoft Studios.
In terms of gameplay, State of Decay always posed an open world that focuses on players' abilities to explore a map full of zombies and their ability to survive while building bases that help them continue their adventure.
The third part of the adventure was announced during 2020, when the Undead Labs team was just in the pre-production phase of the new narrative. Although they are not yet ready to show more of their new game, they are known to have opened a new studio in order to help with the development process.
“It's a game I really enjoy playing. I really like cooperative games, I like to build, I like to look for resources... so I'm really excited about the team's goal,” Spencer said.
State of Decay 3 continues the tradition of using the Unreal 5 graphics engine, which allows the studio to also ensure that they can release updates to State of Decay 2 to revive the franchise that was stranded in 2018.
