Palestinians: Israeli troops kill a young man in the West Bank

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli soldiers shot and killed a teenager and injured at least three more Palestinians during a raid early Tuesday in a refugee camp in the West Bank, the Ministry of Health said.

Authorities identified the deceased as 16-year-old Nader Rayan. The Israeli army referred the questions to the paramilitary border police, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The search took place in Balata, a growing refugee camp located in the city of Nablus, in the northern West Bank. Israeli forces operating in densely populated areas are often met with stones, firebombs or gunfire.

Israel captured the West Bank in the Six-Day War of 1967, and the Palestinians want the territory to be part of their future state.

According to Israel, its military and police operations seek to fight terrorism, while the Palestinians see them as a means of maintaining a nearly 55-year military occupation that has no sign of ending.
