Argentine football is going through a sad moment following the death of Carlos Da Ponte, coach of Cambaceres. The 47-year-old former player had been hospitalized in recent days for a general infection and remained under observation until in the last few hours he fell apart. During the early hours of Tuesday, he died at Rossi Hospital.

Cambaceres, the club he identified with throughout his career, was in charge of confirming the sad news: “With deep pain, we have to say goodbye to you. There are no words Champion, the pain is very great. We're going to miss you every day. Thank you dear Russian and so long!” , the institution that currently plays in Primera D was dismissed and had him as a coach today. Students from La Plata, where Russian Da Ponte became inferior, also regretted what happened: “The club deeply regrets the death of Carlos Alejandro Da Ponte, former player trained in our institution and currently coach of Cambaceres. We accompany their families and loved ones in this painful time.”

The former footballer was able to defend the colors of the Ensenada squad where he won twice: Opening Tournament of the First C in 1998 and the Clausura Tournament of the same category in 1999. He assumed his role as coach in February 2021 and had been fighting for the dream of returning to Cambaceres again to the fourth division of Argentine football. The last match he had to lead before the relapse was against Lanús in the Copa Argentina in what was a 5-0 defeat.

The newspaper El Día de La Plata confirmed that Da Ponte had been hospitalized for a “general infection” but that at this time studies were expected to “reliably identify the origin of the disease he was suffering”. “He died from a disease that doctors had not been able to specify,” agreed the daily newspaper Hoy of the city of Platense.

The farewell to Cambaceres on social networks

Juan Sebastián Verón, vice-president of Pincha, wrote some exciting words remembering his friendship with Da Ponte with whom he shared the 75′ category in the Lower Platense box. “Sometimes we think that life is very unfair. Today is one of those days, we didn't have a relationship every day but we knew everything about everyone and we were always there. The Russian said the one who coped the medium, kicked you to death”, wrote the Witch.

And he added regarding the old image he selected to accompany his farewell in which they are seen together as children in the colors of Estudiantes: “I knew you were going to the tribune accompanying one of your daughters, I would have many memories to tell... but I'll stick with this photo. I'm going to remind you like this: the Russian, the 5th of our team because you will always be. Dear Russian Embrace.”

Carlos was also a field assistant in Barracas Central, Hikers, San Telmo and Berazategui where he forged his knowledge to hit the jump and lead Sacachispas in addition to Cambaceres twice. In the Ensenada club, he accumulated a total of 133 matches and 5 goals in two cycles that ran from 1999 to 2003 and in 2007.
