Mexico City: what roads will the new División del Norte corridor cross

The Government of Mexico City indicated that the new public transport project will cover 98.63 kilometers, counting both directions of traffic

This Monday, March 14, the Secretariat of Mobility of Mexico City (SEMOVI) announced, through the Official Gazette of the capital administration, that they were established the roads through which it will cross the North Division corridor.

According to the established provisions, public transport will cross 62 roads. The two main ones will be División del Norte and Dr. José María Vertiz; however, it will also travel along Axis 1 South, Axis 2 South, Axis 3 East; the roads of Tlalpan, de las Bombas and Acoxpa; Boulevard Adolfo Ruiz Cortines; as well as the Niños Heroes, Chapultepec, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, del Imán and Santa Úrsula avenues, to name a few.

It is also considered that the new corridor will run approximately 98.63 kilometers, considering both directions of traffic, since it will start at the junction of Avenida División del Norte and Avenida Dr. Vertiz and end in the Ahuacán neighborhood, located in the Coyoacán mayor's office.

The agency of the Government of Mexico City emphasized that the new work aims to ensure that transport is in the hands of service providers that comply with standards established by the authority and that operate within the framework of clear regulation.

In addition, Semovi notified that concessions for public transport will be published prior to the issuance of the Declaration of Necessity, as well as the study containing the balance between supply and demand.

It was also indicated that sites, bases, shuttles and stops for the ascent or descent of public transport vehicles outside the corridor will be prohibited, in addition to the restriction of the movement of other public transport; in addition, it was also not allowed to circulate individual concessionaires.

Finally, it was indicated that the auxiliary equipment, services and elements incorporated into the roads not necessary for the operation of the service will be removed.

On March 10, the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, confirmed the construction of the Cablebus Line 3 in Chapultepec, during its participation in the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).

In the middle of her speech, the local president reported that public transport aims to connect the four sections of the Chapultepec Forest and thus improve mobility in one of the most central points of the Mexican capital.

He added that the total investment of the project is 10 billion pesos and, so far, about 3 billion 876 pesos have been invested; the inauguration of the entire project is expected to take place in December 2023.

According to the project presented, which includes nature and culture in Chapultepec, the new line will run from the Cineteca Nacional to Metro Constituyentes, that is, it will run five kilometers in length and will consist of five stations.
