Luis Diaz, Liverpool's second best player in February

The Colombian striker has two goals for the 'Reds' with less than a month in the English squad

Luis Díaz, who officially made his Liverpool jersey debut last Sunday, February 6 against Cardiff City for the fourth round of the FA Cup, was the second best player of the 'Reds' in February.

Liverpool presented on Tuesday the best player award for February, the month in which the team went on to play 7 matches, winning them all and winning the League Cup title against Chelsea at Wembley.

In these good football results, the key chips of the English squad were Virgil van Dijk and the Colombian Luis Fernando Díaz, who were also recognized by the fans and some former players of the club.

Van Dijk was chosen as the best footballer in February followed by Luis Diaz, who was signed at the end of January. The Colombian played 6 games during the month and scored 1 goal against Norwich City for the Premier League.

“I'm definitely proud and I want to thank everyone who voted for me, all the fans. It's great to receive recognition for a good month we had as a team. Personally, I also feel good and it's good to receive a reward for it,” said Van Dijk.

On the other hand, Liverpool did not reveal the percentage of votes, but reported that Luis Diaz ended up close to the Dutch defender. Those who vote to define the winner of this mention are the fans and the official association of former players of the club. The last two winners were Mohamed Salah in December and Fabinho in January.

The Colombian winger has shown that he is completely adapted to the English type of game. On the other hand, after starting his second month wearing the Liverpool shirt, he scored 4 matches played, 2 as a starter in the Premier and one goal last weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion.

“Luis is an integral part of the team. It's okay to talk about him, he's been here a few weeks. It was an incredibly good start. Because of his age, career stage, he can improve a lot. It's great how it has settled (...) Our part was that we were looking for the right guy,” Klopp said at his most recent press conference.

Let's remember that Luis Díaz became one of the most striking hires in this winter market. Liverpool paid 45 million euros, however, this figure could rise to 60 million taking into account bonuses and meeting targets. His arrival represented the third highest value signing in this transfer period: Dusan Vlahovic tops the list, moving from Fiorentina to Juventus by 81.6 million; and second place goes to Ferrán Torres, who arrived in Barcelona, from Manchester City, in exchange for 55 millions.
