The city of Kiev, besieged for several days by Russian troops, will again impose a curfew on Tuesday that will end next Thursday 17th.

“A curfew is introduced in Kiev for a day and a half from 20:00 (18:00 GMT) on March 15 to 07:00 (05:00 GMT) on March 17,” said the capital's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, on his Telegram channel.

The mayor stressed that there is a difficult and dangerous time in the capital, referring to the recent Russian bombings that have affected residential neighborhoods in the city and in which dozens of people have died.

It is “forbidden to move around the city without special passes. You can only leave to get to the accommodation,” said the first mayor of the Ukrainian capital.

The mayor asked all the inhabitants of Kiev to prepare for the fact that they will have to stay at home for two days or, at an alarm signal, in a shelter.

At least two people were killed in the attack on a residential building in Kiev, emergency services reported after shell hits in various parts of the city.

“The bodies of two people were recovered and 27 people were rescued,” the Ukrainian emergency service said on Facebook. He noted that the 16-storey building is located in the Sviatoshyn district in western Kiev.

According to the Ukrainian agency Ukrinform, on the night of March 15 “there was a new air strike against Kiev, after which explosions were heard in several districts of the capital.”

Partially surrounded by Russian troops, the capital of Ukraine woke up with three deep explosions. Emergency services later indicated that they involved attacks on residential areas in different districts.

In Sviatoshyn, in western Kiev, a bombardment hit a 16-storey building where “the bodies of two people were recovered and 27 people were rescued,” they said in a Facebook statement.

There was also a victimless attack on a house in Osokorky (southeast) and artillery fire that triggered a fire later extinguished in a residential building in Podilsk (northwest), where one person was hospitalized, they added.

In that place, covered with glass and debris, a column of smoke came out of the huge hole left by the impact while neighbors threw the ruins of their homes through the broken windows, said an AFP journalist.
