As happened in May 2016, Risaralda José Fernando Santa will no longer be at the helm of the opita club. His second adventure at the helm of Atlético Huila did not last long. He arrived in 2021, but took ownership in 2022 and two months and fifteen days later he already has to step aside at the express request of the steering committee.
Santa will lead the match that the team has scheduled today, at 19:40, against Tigres, for the Copa Colombia, at the Techo Stadium, and after the commitment, his departure will be ratified, regardless of the result. Huila is losing the series by a score of 2-0. Currently, the team has 4 points out of 21 in the promotion tournament, after four draws and three losses. The only positive result the team has achieved so far this semester was against Real Cartagena, a club that has been led by the risaraldense on three occasions, in the first round of the Copa Colombia.
Atlético Huila is ranked number 14 in the promotion tournament. It is the only team, together with Boca Juniors from Cali, a club that Juan Guillermo “El carachito” Domínguez recently joined, that has not won so far in the competition. It should be noted that, apart from the poor results, one of the weakest points of the team has been its absence from play. For seven dates, the team hasn't evolved a bit. You see a weak set of mid-court forward, with little ball handling and great difficulty in generating danger in the rival areas. The absence of a goal is obvious and in defense there is not even the slightest guarantee.
Beyond the fact that the current roster of the opita team is too young and they still don't have enough experience, there is no clear explanation as to why the team has been so badly led by a coach as long as Santa, who said, according to LA NACIÓN and FUTBOLRED, which was President Juan Carlos Patarroyo who made the decision to dispense with their services.
Everything seems to indicate that Carlos Abella will be in charge of taking over as the new coach, who will have the challenge of changing the current course of the team and fighting for promotion. The former goalkeeper of Atlético Huila will have a second cycle at the helm of the opita team, in principle, until the end of this championship.
