On the morning of Friday, March 11, in the city of León, Guanajuato, a group of at least 10 men participated in an armed assault on a stock van and assaulted the personnel guarding the vehicle in which they were allegedly carrying about 20 million pesos.
Several local media reported that the assault occurred at 8:00 in the morning near the intersection of Industriales and Del Pespuntador avenues, in the Industrial Julián de Obregón subdivision, an area of shoe factories and a point where the armed men threatened against the transport unit, stole the bags with money and beat the custodians, leaving two of them with injuries that required medical attention.
Security cameras in the area captured the moment of the robbery. The stock van of the Pan American company was driving normally when suddenly a tow truck hit it head-on. The company's driver reacted immediately and tried to get out of the situation by reversing, but at that moment another vehicle cornered him from behind and prevented him from fleeing.
The robbery took place in a matter of two minutes. Three men got off the crane, and while one of them opened one of the floodgates, the other two threatened the workers of the company with rifles. One of them was even taken out of the van while they committed the robbery to beat him. At the same time, other accomplices fired shots from a red van. Four vehicles were allegedly involved in the robbery.
“You can hear gunshots, but where to do it, I'm doing it in reserve, that truck that is there stamped with the stock van... oh bastard!... bags of money are being taken, bags of money are being taken and shots were heard, the van suddenly let him go to the truck, they let go, they beat him up; they also came from behind,” a witness described in one of the videos uploaded to social networks.
Two custodians ended up with injuries. One by gunshot in the leg and one for blows to the head. The group of assailants, for their part, escaped towards the José María Morelos Bypass and in the escape they threw “strikeouts” to hinder the passage of police units and emergency services.
The Municipal Police insured three vehicles allegedly used in the crime, including a white Dodge pickup that has been detected in other vehicles, a Nissan NP300 with a current theft report and a Ford F-450 platform. Two custodians remain sensitive in a hospital, the prosecution said.
The affected securities company collaborates with the Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Guanajuato to establish the level of affectation. Unofficial versions say that the amount would amount to 20 million pesos, but it is still waiting for the company's administrative procedures to be completed and the total amount of the tonnage that was stolen with the luxury of violence can be determined.
On March 13, as part of a routine inspection, elements of the National Guard (GN) discovered several suitcases loaded with valuable jewelry at the Bajío International Airport, located in Silao, Guanajuato.
According to the authorities of the GN and the Mexican National Customs Agency (ANAM), the more than 80 jewels are worth 43 million pesos, which were carried by two passengers from Dallas, Texas. It is worth mentioning that during the check-in of the luggage, the X-ray machine detected the confiscated merchandise.
After the physical inspection of the hand luggage, they found a cloth sack where they keep the gold pieces with diamonds encrusted in several transparent bags. They did not have documentation that protected them legally. Among what was found were a diamond watch, diamond bracelets, pure gold chains and ruby bracelets, as well as rings and other pieces of this type.
