Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, El Bronco, was admitted to the Apodaca Prison by staff of the local prosecutor's office, where he will remain in pretrial detention until the judge handling his case determines his legal status.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Nuevo León (FGE) reported that the former governor was captured by personnel of the State Prosecutor's Office Specialized in Electoral Crimes, who acted in coordination with elements of the Civil Force and the State Investigation Agency (AEI).

“With regard to information that transpired today regarding the arrest of C. Jaime Heliodoro “N”, the Office of the Specialized Prosecutor for Electoral Crimes of the State of Nuevo León reports: On March 15, 2022, an arrest warrant against the aforementioned person, issued by a Control and Trial Judge, was implemented Oral of the State of Nuevo León, for its probable participation in events with characteristics of electoral crimes,” said the agency hours after his arrest.

He also confirmed that El Bronco was admitted to the Apodaca Prison after being transferred in the first instance to the premises of the FGE: “The person under investigation shall remain in custody in a state Social Reintegration Center at the disposal of a supervising judge who will resolve his legal situation”, reported the dependency.

The arrest warrant against him was issued at the request of the prosecutor's office by a State Judge of Control and Oral Trial, who determined that he must remain in pretrial detention because of the seriousness of the crimes he allegedly committed.

The governor of Nuevo Leon, Samuel García celebrated the arrest of his predecessor through a post on his social networks, with which he announced that El Bronco is being investigated by the “Broncofirmas” he submitted to electoral authorities to obtain his independent candidacy for president in 2018; as well as the diversion of State resources, both material and human, which would have been used for the same purpose.

The public complaint against the former official was filed by Samuel García himself, who went to the appropriate authorities to present evidence on the case, which occurred when the current governor was serving as local senator.

Subsequently, a resolution of the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation (TEPJF) issued a resolution in which it confirmed that both Jaime Rodríguez Calderón and its Secretary General of Government, Manuel González, used public resources for the collection of signatures in order to compete in the 2018 presidential elections.

Through the TEPJF investigation, it was possible to determine that 11 agents of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the then local prosecutor's office participated in the collection of signatures in favor of the Bronco, for which reason they were disqualified from their posts and prosecuted for electoral crimes. Likewise, the position of public servants was withdrawn from them, as well as the certificates that endorsed it in the National Registry of Public Security Personnel.

After taking action against the agents, the Court detected irregular movements and simulated operations by the Undersecretary of Tax Administration of Nuevo León, which were linked to the bank accounts of two close Bronco employees, which were frozen by the tax authorities.

“It took 4 years and 4 months, but at last we did it #BroncoFirmas #NLincorruptible”, this is how Samuel García announced through his instagram account the capture of Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, which had been one of his main commitments during his campaign for the state government:
