Egan Bernal is not afraid to talk about the issues that concern the country these days, such as the elections that took place last Sunday in which Colombia elected the new legislature that will take effect from July 20 and for the next 4 years.

In addition, the presidential consultations were held in which Gustavo Petro in the Historical Pact, Federico Gutiérrez in the Team for Colombia and Sergio Fajardo for the Esperanza Center were ahead of their lists.

Although athletes tend to be discreet on political issues in many cases, the debate seems to attract others like Egan, making the caveat that it does not reveal his inclinations, nor does it give any indication of who the next Colombian leader should be for him.

The coffee cyclist has been active almost always talking about the situation in the country and now, through Twitter he has been seen even more with the political situation that is trending these days.

Bernal has left tweets saying: “Basically, two large majorities face the presidency. (According to me)”.

While his most recent trill published: “It's funny to see how some people try to get me away from politics and not from my opinion because I'm an athlete. And that I don't take great advantage of anyone, can you imagine saying everything I think??”.

The comments were not long in coming from his followers who showed his support to talk about politics by exercising his right as a citizen to refer to what is happening in the country.

Among the most prominent is that of journalist Vicky Davila who wrote to her: “You are a citizen and because you are an athlete you haven't lost your rights... in addition, freedom of expression exists in democracies. Give him champion!!!!”.

For now, the champion of the Tour de France 2019 and Giro d'Italia 2021, is also active in terms of his recovery exercises and hopes, as his coach Xavier Artetxe has said, to be able to return to competitions at the end of the season or at the beginning of 2023.

A few days ago, the Zipaquireño published a photo in which he is seen wearing the uniform of his team Ineos Grenadiers and riding the bicycle doing roller at home, which fills the country with enthusiasm for his return to the pedal sport in the best of his conditions, being among other things the most important cyclist for both his team and for the country today.

It is worth remembering that for this season the Cundinamarquis planned to return to the Tour, but in the face of what happened, the team has had to rethink its leader, recently deciding on the British Adam Yates, confirming, among other things, that its other leader, Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz, will remain on the roster that will seek the title of the Giro from Italy 2022.
