After winning the interparty consultation of the Team for Colombia coalition, presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez announced that he will meet with different political figures and unions to discuss and find possible support and support for the first presidential round on May 29.

” I will lead a national dialogue agenda in the coming days. I will be knocking on doors, in a respectful and proactive way, in sectors that can add to this national desire. We must add the bases of the parties, people who do not identify with any party, members and leaders of social movements; in short, all those who defend democracy and freedoms,” Gutiérrez said in a statement.

One of those supports that the former mayor of Medellín seeks is that of Cesar Gaviria, leader of the Liberal Party. After the results of the inter-party consultations, the rapprochements between the two sides are already taking place. First, Blu Radio reported that the former president met on Monday night with David Barguil, former Conservative Party candidate and on Tuesday with Dilian Francisca Toro, director of the U Party, both of the Team for Colombia.

Among the topics of conversation at both meetings was scheduling an appointment between the candidate of the Colombian right wing and the head of the Liberal Party. Meeting that was scheduled for this Wednesday, March 16, at the house of the former president. The purpose of the meeting, as it became known, is to try to conclude an agreement for the Liberal Party to support it from the first presidential round.

As it has been established, one of the messages that the Team for Colombia coalition wants to send to former President Gaviria for these elections is to prevent Gustavo Petro from prevailing in the May 29 contest, politicians close to the Antioquia campaign have reported to La F.M.

But this will not be Gaviria's only meeting with presidential candidates. The Liberal Party has dedicated itself to listening to the proposals of all those who have wanted to meet with the leader, but he has been emphatic in saying that “the bench will have to meet in the next few days to make decisions”.

And it is that the Liberal Party's support will be transcendental for the first presidential round, as it has been known, one of the demands that Gaviria has placed on the table is that the candidate he supports must respect the independence of the Banco de la República and strengthen the health system.

For now, this will be Fico's first official rapprochement with a former president of the Republic and comes after receiving the support of the presidential candidate of the Democratic Center, Oscar Iván Zuluaga, who abandoned his presidential aspiration. Its agenda also highlights the meetings with former presidents Andrés Pastrana and Álvaro Uribe Vélez and former vice president Germán Vargas Lleras.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 15, the candidate expressed himself like this, regarding the upcoming meetings, “we are going to start here, consolidating the defense of a democracy that does exist and that we have to take care of. We will continue, then, to look for other sectors with which, I am convinced, we will find fundamental issues to agree on such as education, protection against old age, the model of comprehensive security, among others, and, in particular, the defense of the State,” he said.

Finally, the former mayor also reported that he will meet with women's organizations, the LGBTIQ+ community, victims' organizations and with those who were also presidential pre-candidates from the different inter-party coalitions, Christian and Catholic groups, production guilds, active reserves of the armed forces and the National Police.
