At the end of February, images emerged where Carlos Mattos left the prison La Picota due to alleged health complications and later walked and walked around the city of Bogotá without any kind of surveillance by INPEC. The problem was such that the director of the institution and the director of the prison were removed; in addition, they changed their and even his defense was investigated, so lawyer Iván Cancino resigned and now he has another legal representative in the entire process, Omar Juan Carlos Suárez.
On the other hand, on March 11, it became known that the 30th Criminal Judge of the Circuit with Knowledge Function of Bogotá overturned the pre-agreement signed between the Attorney General's Office and Carlos Mattos, considering that important aspects were not taken into account to ensure the effective reparation of the victims, which in this case are the Judicial Branch and the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation.
This pre-agreement indicated that Mattos, with the aim of reparating the victims for the damages caused, undertook to deliver the sum of 1,000,000 dollars, of which 500,000 will be sent to the Executive Directorate of Judicial Administration and the remainder to the Office of the Prosecutor.
Therefore, on March 14, it was announced that lawyer Suárez has already made his first move and confirmed to the prosecutor the position of his defendant, where he confirms his commitment to collaborate with justice.
According to Caracol Radio, the approaches between Mattos's new defense and the Prosecutor's Office will seek the possibility that the businessman in the Hyundai case will give away more involved and reveal dark secrets that he keeps if he is granted a principle of opportunity, that is, immunity from criminal justice.
Mattos, is a Colombian businessman convicted of Hyundai's corruption case: In January 2018, the Attorney General's Office announced an investigation into alleged manipulation of the process sharing system, in order to bring the lawsuit filed by Mattos to reach a specific court. The prosecutor found that Mattos and his lawyer had agreed to pay Judge Reinaldo Huertas for approximately $2 billion pesos (more than $580,000 dollars) to rule in their favor.
For these events, there are 9 people captured, including officials and former officials of the court where the lawsuit was decided, including Judge Huertas, Carlos Mattos and his lawyer. Those captured must be held liable for the crimes of illicit use of computer networks, abusive access to the computer system, aggravated computer damage, improper bribery, bribery to give or offer and own bribery.
Let us recall that the accused was extradited to Colombia from Spain, because after the lengthy investigation the justice decided to prosecute him for judicial corruption and has tried to make some arrangements to be free but so far they have not succeeded due to his behavior that has left several officials out and has produced until the change of his defense. For now, the businessman is waiting for the next hearing to be held on March 29.
