Auction of three archaeological works suspended in Mexico, Belgium

As the Mexican authorities failed to sell archaeological objects abroad, Casa Carlo Bonte Auction removed these objects from the European auction.

The Ministry of Culture and Foreign Affairs reported that it had announced that the Casa Carlo Bonte auction would withdraw from the auction. Auction of fine arts and antiquities three Mexican archaeological works classified as national property, in accordance with the Federal Law on Archaeology, Art and Historic Monuments and Areas.

The information was released in a statement detailing that these artifacts will be sold at the event on March 15, 2022. Given these events, the Mexican Embassy in Belgium contacted the auction house to express the Mexican government's disagreement over “the commercialization of archaeological sculptures abroad and their negative impact on cultural preservation and dissemination.”
