At least seven people have been killed during Russian bombings in recent hours over the eastern Kharkiv region of Ukraine, one of the hardest hit by the attacks since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
Three people were rescued alive when the rubble was removed from buildings that were affected by the bombings, reports the Ukrinform agency.
“Rescue operations continued in the Kyivsky, Shevchenkivsky and Novobavarsky residential districts of the city of Kharkiv, as well as in the district of Izium, in the same region,” reports the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on its Facebook page.
This service also adds that “three people were rescued from under the rubble. Seven bodies were found and removed.”
It is also reported that last night, around 23.30 local time (21.30 GMT), Russian shells damaged commercial areas and residential buildings in the Kholodnohirski district, also in Kharkiv.
According to the Ukrainian agency, about 600 homes, 50 schools and health care facilities were destroyed by Russian bombings in that area.
On Monday, at least two people were killed and one was injured in a Russian bombing in Kharkiv, the regional prosecutor's office reported.
“A building was destroyed and some buildings were damaged after a series of shots by the aggressor,” said the press service of the Kharkiv region prosecutor's office.
The agency, which opened an investigation, specified that there were “two people killed” and “one injured”, whose identities were “yet to be determined”
A few minutes later, the prosecution added that a 15-year-old teenager was killed in the bombing of a youth shelter in Chuguyev, 40 km south-east of Kharkov.
