Mexican Center for Metrology and Earthquake Records (Cires) reported a magnitude 4.0 earthquake that occurred at 12:23 local time (18:23 UTC) near Aria.

According to preliminary information, the earthquake had an epicenter of the state of Chiapas, 39 km southwest of the city, with a depth of 94 km and was recognized by the villagers.

Due to the novelty of the Tellurian movement in the state of Chiapas, the extent of its impact on material and human casualties is still unknown.

In the face of significant seismic activity, the National Disaster Prevention Center (Cenapred) recommends not falling into rumors or false news, but only to official sources such as the federal government, as well as local and state civil protection authorities.

It is important to check if there is a possibility of damage to the house after the earthquake, use the mobile phone only in case of emergency, do not wear matches or candles until it is verified that there is no gas leak, and be careful because there may be a replica of the earthquake.

In addition, you can take the following actions before an earthquake occurs: Prepare civil protection plans, organize evacuation drills, identify safety zones at home, school or work, and prepare emergency backpacks.

Stay calm and in a safe zone during an earthquake, and stay away from objects that may fall. If you are in a car, park it, stay away from buildings, trees and poles, and if you are on the shore, stay away from the beach and evacuate from high areas

Earthquakes in Mexico

It

is not the first time that Mexico has suffered this type of attack from nature. Geolocation is constantly at risk of experiencing these events. Thus, in 1985 and 2017, seismic movements occurred, causing massive destruction across the country.Although these two are the best known today, they are not the largest in the territory.

On March 28, 1787, the strongest earthquake recorded occurred in the country.Oaxaca, the center of Spanish colonization at the time, was a victim of the 8.6 movement. The incident was so hasty that it was followed by a 6-kilometer tsunami inland.

According to data from the Instrumentation and Seismic Recording Center (Cires) carried out in 2009 on the earthquakes cited, there is a possibility that events of this magnitude or greater will be repeated. It is estimated that they will occur in the coming years.Since the epicenter is located in the so-called Guerrero violation, it is calculated on the coasts of Mexico and Central America. This region is characterized by the accumulation of a large amount of geological energy.

However, it does not need such a large scale to create confusion. Mexicans keep memories of the minor earthquakes that occurred in 1985 and 2017. In such cases, the capital and the entire state were paralyzed as an incomparable result of such a Tellurian movement.

On September 19, 1985, an earthquake of 8.2 occurred in Guerrero with its epicenter. It was 07:19 local time (UTC 13:19) .At that time, it was thought that there would be no more earthquakes of such magnitude, but the incident occurred exactly 32 years later.

The 2017 event took place between the states of Puebla and Morelos at 13:14 local time (18:30 UTC). 369 human casualties were killed.
