After the multiple shootings that occurred during the early hours of Monday, March 14 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, federal sources confirmed to Infobae Mexico the arrest of Juan Gerardo Treviño Chavez, the “Egg”, alleged leader of the Northeast Cartel.
The arrest was carried out on Sunday, March 13 by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the National Intelligence Center and the National Guard (GN).
According to the report of the State Prosecutor's Office, military personnel were conducting ground surveys in the Hidalgo neighborhood of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, when members of organized crime attacked military forces.
As a result, the identification and detention of Juan Gerardo “N”, who possessed two weapons for the exclusive use of the Mexican Army and Air Force, was achieved, while the rest of the aggressors fled the place. Subsequently, “El Huevo” was transferred to the vicinity of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), where it was placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office to determine his legal status.
Juan Gerardo “N” is the nephew of the last leader of “Los Zetas”, Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales, so he also belonged to the “last letter” cartel, as he is also known. In addition, “El Huevo” is a member of another criminal group called “Los Treviños”, which has a long criminal history in Tamaulipas.
Similarly, “El Huevo” was one of the most wanted kingpins by Tamaulipas authorities, as he had three arrest warrants and a reward of 2 million pesos was offered for information about his whereabouts.
The first arrest warrant was in Tamaulipas, for the crimes of extortion and criminal association; the second was in the state of Coahuila, for terrorism and intentional homicide, and the last was for the purposes of extradition for money laundering and conspiracy for drug trafficking.
According to the Tamaulipas authorities, Juan Gerardo “N” led, apart from the Northeast Cartel, the group of hit men “Troops of Hell”, alleged heirs of Los Zetas who are dedicated to generating violence in five states of the country and on the small border of Tamaulipas.
