Bertha Caraveo, Senator for Chihuahua de Morena, reported through her Twitter account that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) officially opened an investigation kit against influencer Chumel Torres for the crime of political gender violence. In the same way, he explained that he has already been recognized as a victim in accordance with the provisions of the General Law on Victims so that he can exercise his rights, especially those that correspond to aid, assistance, care and comprehensive reparation for the damage caused.
“I will keep going until dignity becomes a habit,” said Senator Bertha Caraveo.
On March 8, as part of International Women's Day, Senator de Morena announced that she had filed a complaint against Chumel Torres for political gender violence before the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR). He communicated this on his official Twitter account where he also pointed out the influencer as a violentador and assured that he took legal action against him so that no woman would suffer again because of his machismo and hatred that he shows on social networks.
This message was accompanied by photos of the copy of the complaint where it can be read that Senator Bertha Caraveo accused the host of El Pulso de la República of carrying out digital acts that allegedly affected the senator's human dignity.
“That by means of this writing in my capacity as a citizen I come to file a formal complaint for crimes that constitute the conduct that affected my human dignity, due to the gender-based violence to which I have been subjected in a media way against José Manuel Torres Morales”, can be read in the copy of the complaint by Senator de Morena.
The facts come after the host of El Pulso de la República issued insults against the Chihuahuan senator during his program, where he referred to her with derogatory adjectives.
“This stupid*, ah! , I told him stupid*, I meant him moron, it's Bertha Caraveo, senator of Morena from Chihuahua. The dick takes me! Madam, all the more dragged and slimy, and the shell grows, mija, eh! A little more lambiscona and he scalds his tongue with the President”, is heard in the 45-second video of the Chumel Torres program.
Bertha Caraveo explained that although she initially planned to let it go, the support of her colleagues prompted her to exercise her right to stop such “irrational hate speech” against women. In this regard, the president of the Commission for Gender Equality, Martha Lucía Micher Camarena, stated that with “the facts we are seeing, we are showing that the conduct and objectives used by Mr. Chumel Torres are clearly made of political violence against a woman”.
Likewise, he pointed out that the influencer exercises violence from his post and confuses it with the right to free expression, so he was urged to offer a public apology to the senator, however, so far Chumel Torres has not commented on the matter.
This is not the first time that the representative of Chihuahua in the Senate has imposed a complaint for crimes of this nature, as she also recalled when she was the victim of political violence and verbal aggression by the deputy panista Mario Mata Carrasco, a situation for which the Morenista asked for a public apology and invited the legislator to reflect on her actions, insults and denotations in her against.
It should be noted that with this ruling, the National Electoral Institute (INE) must include the deputy in the register of persons who violate political violence based on gender and, for its part, the Chamber of Deputies must carry out a process to establish the corresponding sanctions.
