Mainz on a 3-0 win against Wolfsburg on Saturday at the OPEL Arena. Both sides came from defeats in their previous league games. Mainz were looking to get back their winning ways after losing their last game 2-1 to Stuttgart whilst Wolfsburg were beaten 3-1 in the previous match against Borussia Dortmund. As things stand, Mainz and Wolfsburg currently occupy 7th and 8th spots in the table, with 21 points and 20 points respectively after 14 matches.

Mainz started the first half well, with an early goal from Jonathan Michael Burkardt in the 2nd minute. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Anton Stach in the 4th minute, finishing the first half 2-0.

The 05ers continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Maxence Lacroix finding the net just before the final whistle. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 3-0 to Mainz.

For Mainz, Marcus Ingvartsen, Adam Szalai, Jean-Paul Boetius and David Nemeth, came on for Jonathan Michael Burkardt, Karim Onisiwo, Lee Jae Sung and Alexander Hack. Wolfsburg replaced John Brooks, Ridle Baku, Maximilian Arnold, Dodi Lukebakio and Aster Vranckx for Sebastiaan Bornauw, Kevin Mbabu, Yannick Gerhardt, Luca Waldschmidt and Maximilian Philipp.

There were bookings for Leandro Martins from Mainz, and Kevin Mbabu, for Wolfsburg.

Mainz will next travel to Bayern Munich, while Wolfsburg will face Stuttgart at home.
