Cologne and Union Berlin in 2-2 draw at the Rhein Energie Stadion

Both sides left looking for positives as Cologne versus Union Berlin, ends in a 2-2 draw

On Sunday, Cologne and Union Berlin were held to a 2-2 draw at the Rhein Energie Stadion. Both Cologne and Union Berlin arrived at the match from previous defeats in the league. Cologne arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Union Berlin were beaten 5-2 in the previous match against Bayern Munich. As the table looks today, Cologne are in 11th place on the table and has 14 points while Union Berlin sit in 8th with 17 points after 11 matches.

Cologne dominated the first half, thanks to Anthony Modeste giving Cologne the lead after only 7 minutes. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Julian Ryerson managed to equalize and take the sides off, 9 minutes in at 1-1. However they weren't finished yet and Grischa Promel made it 2-1 just before half-time, finishing the first half 1-2.

The Billy Goats took the initiative in the second half, with Anthony Modeste finding the net again just before the final whistle. The game ended 2-2.

Both managers used all available substitutions. For Cologne, Jan Thielmann, Luca Kilian and Sebastian Andersson, came on for Ondrej Duda, Timo Hubers and Mark Uth, Union Berlin brought on Andreas Voglsammer, Levin Oztunali and Kevin Behrens, to replace Sheraldo Becker, Genki Haraguchi and Taiwo Awoniyi.

There were bookings for Anthony Modeste and Ondrej Duda from Cologne. For Union Berlin, Timo Baumgartl and Andreas Luthe saw yellow.

Cologne will next travel to Mainz, while Union Berlin will face BSC at home.
