Date: October 14, 2022 Time: 12:00PM - 1:30PM EDT Location: Online Free Ticket Link: https://bit.ly/3xMfWN1
The 2022 Award is accompanied by a $100,000 donation given to the charity of Vaughn’s choice, allowing him to inspire teams and projects that will amplify his work.
Vaughn, a survivor of abuse from his time playing football for the University of Michigan, was chosen because of his commitment to changing the culture of sport and athlete care. ”Jon Vaughn has emerged as a leader for social change in sexual abuse prevention and institutional accountability,” said Dr. Steven Ungerleider, GSD Executive Board Member. “He has taken what happened to him and turned it into a movement to protect future generations.” Vaughn spent over 100 days camping in front of the University of Michigan President’s house to bring attention to the abuse he, and more than 1,000 fellow student-athletes, were subjected to at the hands of the university’s Dr. Anderson.
“We can’t change what happened to us, but we sure can make this campus safer today and in the future,” Jon says. “We can speak out and speak up about this dark issue plaguing us. This is a human problem.”
“Jon’s courage in telling his story has impacted young and old alike,” added David Ulich, GSD President. “We join him in spreading awareness on this topic in the hope of putting an end to sexual abuse, not just in sports, but everywhere.”
