Panam Sports and government authorities in Colombia confirm that fans will be in the stands at Cali 2021 during the Chef de Mission Seminar currently underway in the “Sports Capital of America”.
The world’s most important youth sporting event of the year will allow 50-percent capacity in each venue with those in attendance required to comply with a series of safety measures.
CALI, COLOMBIA (August 25, 2021) — The Chef de Mission Seminar for the first Junior Pan American Games of Cali-Valle 2021 is successfully being held with representatives from more than 32 countries and others connecting virtually. The Organizing Committee has given a complete update regarding the progress made in terms of infrastructure, operations and logistics of the event, in addition to informing the participants about all of the security measures that have been planned to make these Games a safe celebration for all attendees.
The best and perhaps most important outcome of the seminar is the confirmation that these Games will allow fans to attend the events in person. This marks a historical development making Cali 2021 the first multisport event in the world to allow fans in stadiums since the pandemic began more than 18 months ago.
“We have decided together with the Colombian authorities to allow 50-percent capacity in the sports venues. However, those who enter must comply with a series of biosecurity measures such as vaccination certificates, mandatory use of face masks, social distancing and hand washing, among other things,” said Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic.
“We are the Sports Capital of America and we are very proud to host the first Junior Pan American Games in history while also commemorating 50 years since the Cali 1971 Pan American Games. We love and resonate with sport and it is essential that we are going to be able to count on the support of the people. We will require a vaccination card to enter, but this will once again give athletes the true sense of sport and being encouraged by their families, friends and the general public. It will be a great sports festival, I have no doubt,” added the Governor of Valle del Cauca, Clara Luz Roldan.
There are exactly 91 days to go until the cauldron is lit at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium in the city of Cali marking the beginning of the First Junior Pan American Games in history. More than 3,800 athletes from 41 countries will compete in 39 sports across 10 days of nonstop action.
There are already several Tokyo 2020 Olympic medalists who have confirmed their participation in these Games, as well as U-23 World Champions in various disciplines.
All of the action from these Games will be broadcast live and direct on the Panam Sports Channel beginning with the Opening Ceremony on November 25 and concluding when the curtain is lowered on the Games at the Closing Ceremony on December 5.
