Iranian world and Paralympic champion powerlifter Siamand Rahman dramatically broke the men's over 107kg world record three times on Friday (24 October), adding a total of 7kg onto his own mark at Incheon 2014.
Rahman, who finished with a 292.0kg lift to edge ever closer to his personal target of 300.0kg, achieved the incredible feat at the Moonlight Festival Garden venue in the headline powerlifting event at the Asian Para Games.
His previous best of 285.0kg was set at the 2014 IPC Powerlifting World Championships in Dubai, UAE, where he added 9kg onto the world record of his Incheon silver medallist teammate and closest rival Mansour Pourmirzaei (255.0kg).
Rahman eased into the competition in Incheon with a 272.0kg first lift, 3kg less than he attempted in the opening round at Dubai 2014.
Leaving the bench to make way for his competitors, the 25-year-old obviously felt good and decided to take it up a gear with a new world record of 287.0kg.
In the third round, Rahman attempted and cleared 290.0kg to take gold as Pourmirzaei failed a 265.0kg attempt.
Taking the opportunity of a fourth lift, Rahman then made his final and boldest attempt yet to take his third world record of the day with 292.0kg.
South Korea's Keun-Bae Chun (235.0kg) completed the podium, improving on his fourth place finish from the Worlds.
Rahman's run of marks brings the total number of world records set at Incheon 2014 to eight, including two new junior marks.
There were a total of 19 Asian senior and junior records set as China finished on top of the powerlifting medals table with seven gold and two silver medals.
Iran secured second place with four gold and four silver, and Vietnam were third with two gold and two silver medals.
The 2015 season will feature a series of regional IPC Powerlifting championships including the Americas Open Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, between 26-29 April, the Asian Open Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from 26-30 July and the European Championships in Eger, Hungary, between 24-28 November.
