(ATR) Composer and impresario Quincy Jones has been hired by the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee to write songs for the upcoming summer Olympics.
Jones is the first major artist from the West named to play a role in the Beijing Olympics.
This is not the first time that Jones has composed music for an Olympic Games. He produced and co-composed the song "Grace", which was used as the gymnastics theme for the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
Jones' credits include collaborations with Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Michael Jackson. He also produced music for several movies and television shows, including In the Heat of the Night, Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice, Ironside, and Sanford and Son.
Jones' role will be announced at a press conference Wednesday morning.
