(ATR) - China's leading designer and manufacturer of computers and related products is on the verge of announcing a worldwide Olympic sponsorship. Legend Computer, a Beijing-based firm with $2 billion in annual sales, will become the first Chinese firm to become a TOP sponsor. Sources in China as well as the U.S. confirm the sponsorship is imminent.
A spokeswoman for Legend tells Around the Rings "as the largest IT company in China, Legend will fully support the 2008 Olymptic Games. Yet, no decision is made for the kind of involvement".
Legend's category would include computer hardware, presumably supplying product and other IT support to the 2008 Games in Beijing as well as the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
In other marketing news, Beijing organizers say they will debut the new emblem for the Games on August 3.
The new logo was due for release in May until the SARS outbreak forced the postponement.
The logo launch is being treated as a milestone event with international media and TOP sponsors invited to attend. Also scheduled to be there: IOC Coordination Commission chairman Hein Verbruggen, IOC colleague Gerhard Heiberg, head of the marketing commission and IOC marketing director Michael Payne.
In September those individuals, along with the IOC President, are supposed to reconvene in Beijing for the official launch of the 2008 marketing program.
